River Voices: Perspectives on the Presumpscot is a celebration of a river, a vision of stewardship and caring, with chapter topics ranging from geology to Native American history to fighting for fish passage. Illustrated throughout with original and historical works of art, this book embodies the concept of managing a river through appreciation of all of its attributes and aspects. Robert (Rob) Sanford is Professor of Environmental Science & Policy at the University of Southern Maine. He is a former board member of the Friends of the Presumpscot. His previous books include Reading Rural Landscapes and Environmental Site Plans and Development Review. Living just a block or two from the Presumpscot with his wife and son, he is on or at the river on a weekly basis if not more frequently.
William (Will) Plumley is a marketing strategist at VONT, a digital marketing agency in Westbrook, Maine, and also member of the company's board of directors. He is a founding board member of the Friends of the Presumpscot, which he led for many years. He has also held leadership roles in the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, the Presumpscot River Watershed Coalition, and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail.
Michael Shaughnessy is a founding member and President of the Board of the Friends of the Presumpscot River. He is a sculptor, small entrepreneur, and faculty member at the University of Southern Maine, where he teaches Drawing, Design and Sculpture. For over thirty-five years, he has shown his work nationally at Museums, Contemporary art Centers, Universities, Galleries, and one in particular on the top of his car. His primary material has been hay that is gathered, bound, and woven into large-scale installations and sculptures. He lives in a four-generation household and small farm along the banks of the Presumpscot River above Saccarappa Falls in Westbrook, Maine.
