As told from a bear’s perspective, this historical fiction tells how Ludwig van Beethoven composed his 14th sonata titled Moonlight Sonata through his special connection and friendship with a very brave bear named Moon.
Steven D. Powell is a lifelong resident of mid-coast Maine where he lives today with his wife Linda. They have two adult children, Amanda and Alex. Bear Moonlight Sonata is Steven’s first children’s book after writing two novels. Centered was published in March of 2015. His first novel titled Patch Scratching was released in 2011.
Thomas Block (1951-2017) retired as an art educator in coastal Maine after 37 years to pursue a career as an artist/illustrator. He was named “Art Educator of the Year” in 2001.
His books include Togus a Coon Cat Finds a Home by News Center 6 Don Carrigan, Baxter in the Blaine House by former Blaine House director Paula Benoit. Thomas has illustrated several young adult novels as well, including Patch Scratching by Steven Powell, The Black Ledge series and Star of Wonder by Paige W. Pendleton, 2014 National Indie Publishing award winner Retsbol Rises by Jayne Jones, three time award winner Maggie Goes to Maine by Betsey Anderson, Colors of Maine by Davene Fahy, and a number of others.
Thomas also created fine art pieces in Tempera Resist, Egg Tempera, watercolor and a variety of drawing mediums. He exhibited at many local venues such as River Arts Gallery, BRAF, Pemaquid Art Gallery, Maine Art Gallery, USM Art Gallery as well as Trinity College and Savannah College of Art and Design.
The Boothbay Register/Wiscasset Newspaper awarded Thomas Block “Artist of the Year 2014” recognition.
