High Green focuses on a young locomotive engineer who is seriously wounded while serving during the Korean War and despairs of returning to the only job he ever wanted, and one he mastered while in high school. The novel is set in Maine where, in 1951, trains still played major roles in the transportation of people and goods between the rural backcountry and the population centers of the northeastern United States.
High Green traces John Shanahan’s return to the only job he ever wanted, his blossoming love for Jenny, and his realization that he must expand his horizons beyond those of a locomotive engineer. |
